VISION
Once its development completed, the Chair will be part of the T3E Canadian leaders in research, development and training in the field of energy. It will be integrated and networked with national and international organisations of specialized resources working in synergy to promote economic and social development. It will work closely with several companies to boost production of Canadian expertise in energy.

MISSION
The Industrial Chair assists companies wishing to develop new technologies related to management, production, conversion, retention and optimization of energy use or improve existing technologies. The Chair also aims to support companies that want to improve the energy efficiency of their equipments, their processes and systems. Chair T3E will also support partners when it comes to carry out studies and energy analyzes for the benefit of others. Its main mandate is, however, the training of highly qualified workers and production of scientific and technological knowledge. It also works closely with international partners in research and training. Finally, the Chair aims to be integrated with other academic research institutions, private or public energy to support the development of industry in Quebec and Canada.

MAIN OBJECTIVES
As a summary, the following list includes the specific objectives of the Chair:

  • Develop, test and validate new or existing technologies to meet the needs of Quebecers and taking into account the social and economic aspects of energy consumption always in relation to sustainable development. This is to situate the action in terms of demonstration of the feasibility and environmental and technicoeconomic of technologies, systems and energy policies that could influence the future of Québec. The action therefore concerns both technological showcases that can be made ​​at a client or partner and develop projects involving experiments conducted on the premises of the Chair or with a partner;

  • To provide business, professional firms, researchers and students a reference center to test and validate ideas, assumptions of economics, conversion, or energy recovery, process innovation, research and discoveries. Assistance may also be a step in an initiative to support industrial or commercial customer to conduct a pilot project structuring and assessing the feasibility;

  • To subscribe in a perspective of concerted action and complementary to groups, centers and laboratories existing on the territory Québec. To participate in the efforts of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife and Natural Resources Canada to better coordinate the various stakeholders;

  • To support the extension of the results of research, innovation and transfer in the interest of public understanding of the social, economic and environmental energy technologies.

HISTORY
The creation of the Chair T3E derives from the dual strategic importance of the energy to the economy - namely the increasing needs and costs, coupled with an inexorable decline in the availability of fossil fuels - and Quebec society, and awareness of the effects of burning fossil fuels on the environment.

In addition, it aims to meet the requirements of the Québec Research and Innovation Government of Québec (MDEIE, 2006) which states its intention to focus on innovation to strengthen Quebec's competitiveness in international markets . More particularly, the Chair aims to meet the objectives enshrined in the Québec Energy Strategy 2006-2015 (MNR, 2006) and also in the Innovation Strategy and development in energy efficiency and new energy technologies (CSTQ, 2008)..

It is the creation process that distinguishes this research chair of other projects or research groups. Indeed, it is normally one accomplished researcher and recognized that eventually obtain the financing sought in his environment to perform the work he wants. Here it is rather a need of a region and partners (an environment) that agree to make energy efficiency a matter of general social and economic development.

  • 2005 : The idea of an energy institute at Lévis was promoted by the City of Lévis for several years when the city officials contacted the Vice-President of Campus Lévis of UQAR to study the feasibility of installing such a university research unit within its territory.

  • 2006 : The contribution of the City of Lévis to the fundraising campaign of the Foundation of UQAR has a section dedicated specifically to this initiative.

  • 2007 : The network of the Université du Québec invests in the startup of a proposed Chair and / or research center on the territory of Lévis.

  • 2008 : Following the withdrawal of UQAR of the case, the ETS is interested in the project. The financial arrangement starts. The project is closely linked to an expansion of the Quebec Metro High Tech Park called Innoparc Lévis.

  • 2009 : The minimum financial support is secured on June 16. The ETS hires Daniel R. Rousse on September 21, so that it holds the Research Chair.

  • 2010 : The official opening takes place April 20, 2010. In autumn 2010, the team included eight student researchers.
